i want to know why its worth it though. i dont know what the processor is like since its not x86 or x64 or SPARC. and a 60 gig harddrive only cost about 50 bucks. that cant be the reason. i want details explained to me because i didnt understand them that well when i looked at them.

The Cell micro processor features 1 3.2GHz PowerPC processor that assigns commands and data to 8 other pseudo processors called SPEs each at 3.2 GHz. 1 SPE reserved for eliminating bottle necks. The Cell features an onboard C interpreter for extreme execution speeds. The Cell is connected to memory via high speed extensible Rambus memory writing data up to 25 GB/s. The Cell is connected to the rest of the system via IBMs proprietary system bus FlexIO. Base system w/ 20GB HD $500

And then some. The RSX can render dual 1080p at 120 FPS which most TV won't support

so its pretty much the processors that make up about 90% of the pricetag. definately worth it. i wont get it because it takes about a year of pay but its worth it. the price is justifiable. thank you.

also we got a notice at the store that they are actually losing money, b/c they are actually forking out 1,000 just to make the things.... but indeed it is soooooo worth it.

PS3 runs Linux and functions as a standard PC out of the box.
The Cell is only $230 the Blu Ray player costs more at $300

vio. as far as i have been able to see. the majority of consoles have done that. they loose money on the console but make buttloads on the game sales.

PS3 comes with the RSX which has the power of TWO nVidia GeForce 6800 Ultras. However, Linux is probably temporary. We may be at the threshold of IBM's OS/3

Wait. os/3 as in the child of the people that made os/2? i like os/2 rather powerful yet not extremely complex. so far im the only one that i have physically met that has ever used it. granted it was a bit watered down since all it was being used for was to run a five thousand dollar SBC telephone switchbox. never figured id see os/3. i had thought it had died at os/2

OS/2 is the heart of Windows NT OS's.
If Microsoft doesn't make a Cell OS and due to the fact that Linux isn't to user friendly IBM is left with their own OS to suceed
