so i was at my friends house. hes getting sattilite internet and we had to figure out how to get it to his dads car garage/ repair shop/ barn thingy. thats about 600 feet away, though three metal walls and a line of nice leafy trees.
ended up that we could do it and get a seventy two percent signal strength.
we first started out with a 802.11pre-n card and router. turns out that the PCMCIA card and desktop adapter just wouldnt cut it. the three powerstrips right next to the computer sort of killed the signal. brandon though has a desktop with integrated 802.11g and if we set it next to the desktop in the shop we got absolutely no signal. though if we picked it up about six inches it cleared the EMI field and would get a weak signal but it was there.
so we made another trip to the north end of town to return the pcmcia card and we got a linksys card with a stand alone highband antenna tower. we set it on the counter and boom. it worked.
problem is we got our end covered but the stupid SBC install crew never bothered to show up to install the internet.
