Release date: March 15, 2006. Well we're getting closer. The rumor is the general rule of thumb with Fedora is the odd numbered releases are awesome and even numbers suck. I'll try it and run it through its paces. If it can handle more than my version of Slackware then maybe I'll switch. I've been looking to get out of Windows, especially now since I found out Gates' comment on the era of free software.
The hardest part for me is going to be giving up Max(if WINE doesn't support it, which it doesn't on Slackware but that version is a little old).
Another hard part is the possibility of giving up Steam and Half-Life 2. I don't play it much so not a huge deal.
Anyways, I'll give you guys some updates.

Kubuntu with XGL/Compiz is the shit (and currently unstable).

Yeah it is. I'm a fan of Slackware Linux. Problem is, like the name would indicate, it doesn't have updates very often.

Try out the Lunar-Linux distro. It optimzes especially to specific processors. Also, Kubuntu 64be is good.

The only thing is you're unlikely to see the true power of 64-bit systems right now. You may have a 64-bit processor and 64-bit operating system but there are very few 64-bit programs and even fewer that are real performance boosters. 3DS Max and Half-Life 2 have 64-bit editions but from what I hear it's not that big of a boost.

yeah the HL2 one was what i was going to screw with
plus i bet there is a boinc distro out there specialized for 64 bit lin. id use that so stress test it.

Problem is there isn't much to see with HL2-64be. I read some reviews and they say "We see differences of about 10 Frames Per Second. Not much else."
I'm wanting a 7800GTX or X1900 more than a 64 bit processor right now.
