If you know warhammer 40k it'll help if you ever read this book, but even if you've never seen anything of the 40k universe this book gives you quite a good overview of the galaxy which is simply put: Really messed up.
It mainly revovles around the newly promoted Captain Uriel Ventris, who is assigned to one of the many worlds within the 40k galaxy to defeat civil unrest and a band of pirates that have been attacking the world for some time.
Eventually they all discover they're all being manipulated by a far greater evil who resides within the planet.
This book I enjoyed reading a great deal as it makes you believe that the main enemy was the pirates but I was surprised when the real enemy was released, (was the one I got the idea for Orgun aswell ^^)
and proceeded to beat everyone.
The story of Uriel Ventris is told over a number of books I have the first 3 but Im now waiting for any more that may be released.
If you'd like to know about the other 2 just ask and I'll post here.
