Every thing looks fine to me ^^ I like a dark forum. Maybe a tiny bit of color to contrast the sized text.

It looks like a cut-scene from May Payne.

Well you all didn't see the theme that I had up for about 5 minutes last night. That thing kicked ass but I didn't have anything beyond forum posts setup quite yet.

I knew I was going to catch flak for taking down the old banner. The old one just simply didn't go with the new colour scheme

this new one needs his eye fixed. the left one makes him looks like a frog. or is it just me that it looks like his eye is bubbling out?

and are you talking the setup where every other text box was a bright grey?

That banner is there for now. I'm taking a pseudo-hiatus from the internet and computers. That banner was part of a new forum layout. Once I get everything else working, you can choose between the old one and the new one.

His eyes are "off" because of a method I used to enhance the images I had. I had 200x200 when I needed 500x500. Don't bitch at me when you're not willing to help out

Right am I the only one here who seems to be not bothered by the Banner, I appreciate what Mewrei has done and simply because he has put up a banner that isn't up to specs doesn't bother me one bit. If he left it like that permenantly (I doubt he will) I wouldn't care....its a banner.

i'm not bitching, just thought it looked funny =) and i got nothing against you run this place, i think you're doing a good job.

oh btw, don't make reh run this place he's a nazi <<

and i liked the old banner better, also it's made by the original founder of the temple so it's kinda legendary =P

What's wrong with being Nazi? XD.

Technically the old banner is still there (http://tom.mewtworevolutions.com/TOMBanner.jpg) but I'm trying to figure out a good way of being able to switch between the two. Give me time yo.

This site runs WoltLab Burning Board Lite (http://www.woltlab.de) with a bunch of mods from www.wbbmods.com

We also use a standard template engine that uses the eval() statement within PHP to take certain statements within HTML templates as PHP arguements and variables.

Let me know if you need help configuring you LAMP system

Razorirr
January 28th, 2006, 01:08 pm
linux
apache
mySQL
perl.

yeah im going go start with the L first. i have a book that explains all this but its way over my head rignt now.

first thing first. what do you think the best setup would be from what i see i could:
1. run this all on the linux half offline since its OS is configured as a server.
2. have the desktop be offline running linux and i configure the stuff from my windows xp notebook over the gigabit connection.
3. figure out how to comple drivers so i can actually get the modem working on thelinux half. or can i share my dial up over the lan from the windows notebook to the linux desktop?

The P in LAMP is actually PHP. LAMP systems are the most popular web systems

Me personally? I'd configure the system on the server's GUI then enable Secure Shell acess for administration.

and yes you can share dialup over your network

it gave me a bunch of choices to pick from. (perl php and python.) and trust me im well advanced in the ways of dial ICS, i have tu put up with dial all of the time.

since linux is all free and such which ones are the best for web hosting? my version of fedora is built in with apache and mySQL. just wondering if theres either a version thats bettor or a version that can do the stuff, will take more work to setup but is mure user friendly.

i sat down and figured out all the stuff that you have to do wiht the makefiles and set it up all right. then i go to the command lline to make the installer compile for the modem and BOOM. both my CD and the Internet site are missing a file!

and if you think it would be a good idea, im going to baker college next year maybe. it depends on if my teacher signs off on the permission slip at the end of the class but to the point.

Microsoft has this thing with bakers IT classes that we can get any and all windows programs for free. thats including OSes. do you think it would be easier if i waited 10 months and got a copy of server 2003? then i could set up WIMP i think its called. or is it WAMP?

(oh and this is just crazy talk at this point but my dad came up asking me a couple days back about how a mainfraime web server works and how to get clients renting space. if it ever were to happen id probablly find myself in MCSE classes and admining the thing. if it does happen, and im making no promises whatsoever ill try to hook us up with free hosting.)

The P in LAMP is always going to be PHP though. Wikipedia defines LAMP as PHP because Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP servers are by far the most popular.

Alot of people use FreeBSD for webhosting because of its stability. FreeBSD is more UNIX than Linux though, being a BSD style OS. Me? I'd use Slackware Linux. My favorite flavor. It's written and maintained by one guy who think that other Linux flavors have lost their UNIX-likeness so he's reverted it. I'm not a Fedora guy. Though it is better than Debian based systems. Debian and its spinoffs(Ubuntu) were made for user functionality rather than server capability.

Despite the fact that I like the Windows Server Family, they're very full of glitches and lack alot of stability and security. I work around these problems but Linux or even UNIX is going to be more stable.

If you really want to try an OS, try NetBSD. It's the most portable OS in the face of the history, or so they say. I believe them, they installed NetBSD on a toaster. It's also free.

My ideal web setup involves Windows but if not I'd be using Slackware, PHP5, MySQL5, LightTPD(an alternative to Apache that's so much faster), and E|Accelerator.
