View Full Version : What started it?

( put under flames section because people will have drastically different opinions )

What started it all? What attracted you to Mewtwo in the first place? What made you all the huge fans of Mewtwo you are today?

I have many, many reasons why i'm a fan, but the very first one was because he looked so much like a cat on the first Mewtwo card I got. I was ( and still am ) a huge cat lover then, and Mewtwo was a cat. Of course, Mew was also a cat, but I chose Mewtwo over Mew because he is purple, and purple is my favorite color.
When the movie came out, I became an actual fan because of the overpowering violence and anger ( I was going through that stage of teenage-hood ) .
Then a year or two later, after I watched the movie obsessively again and again, I came to like him more for his childish innocence and - of course - how much he was like a cat. Then out comes MR, and I fall in love with the philosopher. Even now I still cry every time he's put in that evil pink bubble of doom. He was so fatherly to and protective of the other clones, even my mom liked him for that.
Now, years after Pokemon has "gone out of style", I'm still a die-hard Mewtwo fan. I even see him in my dreams, and we're quite good friends ( yeah, yeah, I know you'll all call me insane for being friends with a 'fictional' character in my dreams, oh well. ) . Now, it's not just the violence, or the inner strength, or the cuteness that keeps me hooked...it's just him. All of him. Some people might say he is "flawed" or that he has anger issues, but nobody is perfect, and even perfection is flawed. And in my opinion, he is perfect, flaws and all. Now, he is more than just a fan's idol to me, he is a muse. He has helped me with a lot of things in my life, even cleared up my old suicidal tendencies. Some people may say Pokemon went out of style years ago, but for me, Mewtwo is here to stay.

i hear you.

for me he was the first anthromorphic thing that i had ever seen. ive always been intouch with my animal side better then others that i know. he just stuck with me and is still number one even though i found others. (dragons) i even based my character as a dragon out of respect to Mewtwo. im my eyes he is and will always be the only one of his kind. i couldnt copy him.

what keeps me with him are his morals and personality. he doesnt give up when he is doing anything and he stands up for his family and beliefs no matter what he is facing. those are beautiful traits.

I was a major Pokemon addict, just playing my part in the fads, back about 10 years ago. I bought Blue version and life changed so much. I went from a casual gamer to an all out gaming freak. My addiction lasted much longer than what was healthy. However, I did stop before my entrance into 8th grade(remember what I said about long?). I completely got rid of everything Pokemon....however, I kept Silver and Gold version under my bed with my GBA. I maintained my fetish for Lugia up until about 3 years ago. I was just searching for Lugia shrines and all of a sudden "Wait, what about mewtwo?" I search and find the fanfiction, Avalon's Tail. From there on out, it was my immediate fetish.

But what attracted me to him? My life up until this point had been....grim to say the least. With my purchase and re-purchase of Mewtwo Returns and Pokemon:The First Movie respectively, I suddenly discovered a common bond. The bond of neither of us being wanted. Both being used. That's where my fetish evolved. Evolved from a simple kinship to my all out obsession. I kindled it for a few years in quiet hobby, with which I did alot of reading and writing, then finally discovered ToM. I wasn't to huge of a user until the summer. Everyone else knows the story from there.

Man I turned a simple question into an all out biography. Even my English teacher says I'm wordy. XD

For me... I'm still not sure exactly why I like Mewtwo so much ^-^' It started for me when I was in 6th or 7th grade, when my best friend bought a "Pokedex" (it was actually a book filled with info on the original 151). I thought Mew was the cutest thing ever, then I saw Mewtwo. @.@ I thought he was the coolest 'bad guy' ever. XD
So we go out to see MSB for her birthday, which only made me like him even more, especially when I understood that he wasn't really evil, just misunderstood. And it just kinda grew from there....

Hmm...

To be completely honest I wasn't such a big fan of Mewtwo at first. Back then when Pokemon started I was in the fourth grade, and the main focus was on that Ash kid and his pokemon. And in that time, I was an avid animal lover, so I started falling in love with Pokemon after Pokemon. I'd wish they existed because they were so irresistably adorable. I only got to see Mewtwo in the opening theme, and it didn't really say a lot, you know?

It was in the release of the first movie where I really got to notice him. I saw it, and got entirely caught up in the film. Though my first impression of his aggression and lack of mercy made me like him less...when he was revealed as misunderstood, and that's where I reconsidered my initial opinions. In a few days time, I was a fan. I've followed his stories (Mewtwo Returns, and Origin of Mewtwo) and have found the depth of his thoughts, feelings, and even a sad past. I felt like I could both relate, and draw inspiration from him. There was something about him. Something...

Shhhh! You didn't hear this from me!!

A friend and I are trying to get internships with Nintendo and Disney. If all goes well (ie. I get an internship), I'll try to throw an idea of another Mewtwo film into the cogs of the corporate film machine.

A long-shot, and probably doomed effort, but you can't say I never tried! ^^;;;

Awesome Jax! Good luck with that.

I started off actually being a Ninetales/Vulpix fan. Then I got the game, thought it was cool so started watching the anime on ITV weekdays and Saturdays. By then I was an addict and heard there was a film so I went to see it for my birthday. Thought Mewtwo was cool, his voice actor was awesome so I went a searching for internet fan groups, found this place in about 1999. Rest is history.

Well, like any other kid at my age, (3rd grade at the time) I fell in love with Pok?mon. I'm not sure when I first discovered Mewtwo, but I remember being super-hyped about MSB when I first saw the ad. I saw the movie. Boom.

What struck me most was the fact that he is the strongest Pok?mon out there. Foes after foes, smash, bang, boom, Mewtwo's still the greatest. Loved it. Later, I fell in love with his character. Even now, every time I watch MSB, I marvel at how he effortlessly deflects one of the most powerful pok?mon attacks out there. (Gyarados' hyper-beam)

Now, even though the Pok?mon rage rather died down years ago (new games are still popular, though) I'm still crazy about Mewtwo, and I feel well disposed toward pok?mon in general.

Damn...You know I have yet to meet a die-hard Mew2 fan that didn't have some sort of screwed-up teenage/childhood experiance. I think that in the end it was very theraputic for me to gain an interest in Mew2. There were alot of similarities I saw between us, and even though when it get down to it, Mew2 is nothing more than a collective hallucination, the idea of his pesonality and pain is very real to me, because I have shared it. (And I sure most of you who have read my fic will insisit I caused a good deal of it) But it was through Mew2 that I met many other people who have felt the same way, and who have undergone the same experiances. In that I didn't feel so alone in the world. The fic had also given me much more confidence in my work that I didn't have before. Mew2 has really helped me out, even if it all was in my head.

I fell in love with Mewtwo the first time I saw him, it was the first yeah Pokemon came out, and I first saw Mewtwo in the Cerulean Caves (Also known then as the Unknown Caves) It took me many trys to catch him, Cause I used my Master ball on one of the l Legendary Birds (Hey how could I've know that such a sexy Pokemon was in the game). After wards I would offen try to look up art work on mewtwo more and more offen, but do to his low popularity I was having no luck on that offen, then was the fan fic Damage, Needless to say that I loved it but after getting deep into the story I was strating to notice that mewtwos in the story where not acting like Mewtwos anymore but more and more like humans, that and knowing that there was insets going on with R2 and a few of his female relatives didn't help either, that was about as far as I got with that story and I droped it from there cause I was starting to lose my taste for Mewtwos after that point. Anyway with the help of the First PKMN Movie and the "Mewtwo Retures" movie I fell deeper in love with the charactor, I will always be in love with mewtwo from the first day I saw one till the day I die, that he will. And one more thing I have made it a goal of mine to collect as Many Mewtwo Cards from Trading Card game as I can too. :3

Well, I became a fan of Mewtwo after the first movie. Though it wasn't to the point of obsession cause I was obsessed with Sonic at the time. Over the course of a few years, I began to become more intrigued by him.

It wasn't what I knew, it was what I didn't know. What goes through his head? What's he doing? Where is he hiding? Stuff like that.

I had a late start in Pok?mon, since I didn't start playing it until 2001. I started out with Red/Blue/Yellow, and when I found out I could "cheat" on Red/Blue, I could get as many Master Balls as I could to capture Mewtwo, since he fascinated me. The reason was because he resembled a cat (and I happen to love cats anyway). Besides that, he was my favorite color. So in every Pok?mon game I've had since then (with the exception of certain versions), I've had a Mewtwo. At first, I didn't know much about him until I saw the videotapes (and later the DVDs) of MSB and MR. Then it began to make sense why I was obsessed with Mewtwo. I found that I could relate to him, since he shared the same sentiments I had about society as a whole. For most of my life, I've had this feeling of not belonging anywhere in society. So it was like I could empathize with Mewtwo, once I understood him better. At first I thought he was a mean Pok?mon in MSB, but in MR, my attitude changed as I discovered he wasn't all that bad, just misunderstood. At one point, I was obsessed by Mewtwo that I even chose a Mewtwo screen name. Weird, isn't it? :P
