Two years... Has it truly been so long?

He sat by the entrance of his home, thinking. In those two years, memories of his previous life and of... well, his other previous life, had come back to him.

Am I human? Or am I Mewtwo? He looked down into the water, at his reflection. All the scars had faded away, and his body had taken the Mewtwo DNA and combined it with his own, forming a new body. He was strong, fast and agile. No huge Mewtwo thighs, none of those annoying knobs on his fingers and heels, and no more of the awkwardness of a human body. And his powers... They were stronger than he remembered, but whether it was from the mixing of the two bodies or something the doctors added, he didn't know.

Unintentional perfection... That's what I am.

He was too lost in his thoughts to sense the trainers getting closer. It was almost too late when he finally did. One of his long, pointed ears flicked back when he heard a twig snap. Shit...

Apparently the trainers knew he was aware of them. "Go Beedrill! Pin missile!"

The hybrid jumped up and fled behind the waterfall. The attack missed.

"Darn!"

He could hear them follow him in; the Beedrill's buzzing echoed off the rock walls. Why can't they just leave me alone??

"Man, it's dark back here..." A click, and a beam of light shone into the tunnel. Alex hid behind a large boulder. "It's gotta be back here somewhere. What do you think it was?"

"I dunno, but it sure looked weird! I thought it was a Jynx at first, with that white hair."

"Yeah, me too."

A gasp, then, "There it is!"

He looked up and growled, baring his fangs.

"My god..." They stared as he rose to his full height. Whatever he was, he was definitely more than a mere Pok?mon. There were still traces of his human origin in his features.

"What are you doing here?" His voice was rich, deep and a bit shaky, but intimidating nonetheless.

The pair gawked at him for a bit, then the taller one holding the flashlight spoke up.

"We... we're trainers. And we thought you were a Pok?mon..."

The strange being snorted. "If I am, I was made this way." Then as a second thought, "...You wouldn't happen to have anything for me to wear, would you?" Old habits die hard... but it's kind of embarrassing to be standing naked in front of strangers...

The two boys grinned at his obvious embarrassment. "Not really, but if you come with us, I guess we could get you something."

Go out there? But I can't... Not like this... He frowned. "I can't. Not... not like this... I'm a freak."

He could hardly believe what he was saying, let alone that he was even talking to these two trainers, complete strangers. I really must be lonely... I wish I could see my old friends again, but... He sighed softly. Then again, maybe I should stop hiding. Maybe these two can help me, maybe I can really trust them.

The two trainers were discussing things as well.

"He kinda has a point, we can't take him anywhere like this. I don't think he'd appreciate people staring at him."

The shorter of the two scratched his head thoughtfully. "Maybe he can have some of my dad's old clothes! They might not fit exactly, but at least he's about the same height."

The hybrid listened to them carefully.

"But it'll take a while to get there and back..."

"I can wait." The two boys jumped when he ended his silence.

"Uhh... Okay! But it'll take us a couple weeks."

He merely nodded. "I can wait." He repeated. "It will give me time to get used to the idea..."

The boys nodded and ran off, eager to get back.

What have I gotten myself into?

~~*~~

Nearly three weeks had passed. He was beginning to wonder what happened to the two trainers. Had they forgotten about him? Had they told anyone about him? He guessed not, since he hadn't had any unwanted visitors. At least, not yet. Maybe the younger boy just lived really far away...?

The he heard their familiar voices, chattering away happily. He smiled a bit as they gave into view.

"We got some stuff for ya!" the shorter boy announced proudly, pointing to his bulging pack. The creature watched as the bag was dropped to the ground, then rummaged through. A pair of pants was produced.

He took them, then inquired about the cut down the back.

"It's for your tail! I did it myself." The small trainer grinned proudly. "There's a button to help hold it in place too."

"So there is..." He tugged them on. Well, this is awkward... They were a bit tight on his thighs, but at least his tail fit through the hole comfortably. "So... How am I supposed to hide this?" He flicked the long, purple appendage, curling it loosely about his feet.

"We thought about that too!" More clothes were pulled out: a button-up shirt, a long black leather coat (he guessed that was what had caused the boy's pack to nearly burst at the seams), a pair of shoes, and a hat. A white scrunchy was flung at him, and softly bounced back off his chest. I remember these... He picked it up.

"Peter said that if we could cover up enough, you could pass off as a tall albino."

"Albino?" He looked down at himself. Come to think of it, I am a lot paler than I used to be. Must be from the Mewtwo side of me. "Yeah, I suppose I could..." He looked back up. "Peter?"

"Yeah!" The short one pointed to his partner. "He's my cousin. I'm Matt!"

"And a bit of a loudmouth." Peter added. Matt shrank back, grinning sheepishly. "Almost blabbed about you to the whole town."

He only flicked his tail.

"So, um... You got a name?"

Good question... I suppose I should just stick with my human name, it'll be easier to fit in.

"...I'm Alex."

Alex followed Peter and Matt into town, trying not to look as nervous as he felt. He was especially glad for the shade his hat provided; two years in a dim forest had lowered his ability to deal with bright sunlight. Plus it helped hide the unusual color of his eyes.

Matt frowned, feeling those amethyst eyes staring at his back. He knew the sunlight reflecting off the white cement of the sidewalk was giving the hybrid a headache, but it was still unnerving. Finally the unsettling gaze was removed as they stepped inside a small restaurant.

Alex took a deep breath, his mouth watering at all the wonderful smells. Very few he could actually relate to a taste; the others, he could only imagine. "Are we stopping for lunch?"

"Duh." Peter replied. "Why do you think we're here? To buy more Pok?balls?"

"Sorry..." He sat at an empty table, trusting the cousins to get something good for him. He wasn't ready to deal with other people yet.

The duo returned with a tray piled with food. Alex nearly laughed at the sight. One thing that hadn't changed at all was his huge appetite, and the two had learned that lesson quickly.

"What will we be doing next?"

It had already been decided that he would stay with the two trainers. Living alone again was not an option. In return, he'd give them tips on training, and even let them practice on him. He figured he could use the exercise anyway.

"Maybe we could go to Pallet Town and see Professor Oak! He could get you a trainer's license!" Matt enthused. Alex smiled.

"That does sound fun. Can we leave tomorrow?" He could hardly keep the excitement from his voice. Being a trainer was something he'd always wanted to do, but homeless brats like himself usually didn't have that privilege.

Peter shrugged, "Any time's good, I guess."

"Maybe we can get some new Pok?mon too!"

Alex laughed, then took a bite of his hamburger. "Mm... I think they overcooked it a little..." he commented. It tasted slightly burnt, but after a diet of fruits and nuts for two years, the hamburger was a welcome change.

Peter dropped to the soft grass by the fire and kicked off his shoes. He and Matt had spent nearly every penny they had on Alex, but he felt it was worth it. Matt was sitting nearby, fixing the pants they'd bought so they wouldn't be so tight on Alex. Amazingly, the pest was a wizard with needle and thread.

Alex was currently snuggling under a length of fleece they'd bought to use as a blanket, thinking the other two were too busy to notice. It's so soft and warm! He froze when he heard a giggle, and turned to glare at Matt.

"You should be more careful." The pre-teen explained. "You projected your thought!"

"...Oops."

Peter laughed and stretched out. "I'm going to sleep now." He announced and laid down, promptly passing out.

Matt put his project away and followed suit.

Alex stared. "Um... Good night?" When there was no response, he put out the fire and curled up under his blanket, intent on sleeping.
