Now then here we are at a topic I' well versed in or at least somewhat versed in. Now, what are your opinions on this somewhat 'ethical' choice of weather or not to become a cyborg, for personal reasons, to enhance your performance or just to save your life? Do you become less or more then your species if you enhance yourself? Can an artificial intelligence be bonded to an actual mind to form a superior form of symbiotic organic-synthetic intelligence? These are my questions, I hope someone will answer, now...
BUBBLEGUM ICECREAM!! First on in here get's the coupon! xD.:D

well, IMO, we already have cyborgs amongst us. any people with artificial limbs or medical aids or pacemakers. I don't think that any healthy human should go tampering with themselves unless necessary. Human brain is more powerful than any supercomputer so far, so i don't think an AI could make it better. also, if you're not happy with your physical performance, you start exercising, not install some gadgets onto your body, that's just cheating yourself, and i, myself would find this pathetic. So, IMO, nobody should become a cyborg unless it's to save their life, and if they agree to it.

Well, if the human brain is more powerful then a super-computer then how come it cannot perform the simple action of drawing a circle on one piece of paper and a squire on another? Try it. A student in my computer class said he'd prove me wrong, all his shapes came out circle or squire like. According to science this kind of multitasking is beyond the brains capacity, and yes the brain is more powerful but only in essence of thought, a computer can memorize, it's arithmatic ability is better and it can multitask millions of tasks, without getting one of them wrong. It was pretty funny seeing my friend trying to draw a circle and a squire, he got neither shape right xD.

I agree, for medical purposes cybernetics is fine. Just for fun is a stupid idea that'll probably lead to more problems than solutions. Um just so you know Mewfive you spelt square wrong. ^^;

only cus his brain isn't a supercomputer m'dear. It can't memorize. ;P
and i believe squire is some sorta old-times occupation. like apprentice.

AWR foiled in my misspelling of a crucial word to get right! >_> 'cusses in beepery noises whose translations shall not be revealed for fear of permanently scarring the surface of your ear-drums.' Ah yeah, but then there's also the military application for them, or crazy gangs! Like in 8 Man Redoubled gangs cut of arms and legs to replace them with weaponized cyborg parts. O_o, how's that for accessorising?

*mutters* I can do the circle and square thing just fine, thank you. There's a trick to it.

Oh yes there's a trick to it ^w^. Do each one at separate times. You have to do both at the exact same time with two hands. And if there's a trick to it please teach me? ^w^. I want to learn how to improve my brain, and by the way when will you be done reviewing my information, I want to give a post or, is there an order of posting? Cause Orgun's posted and methinks he needs a response. I would still like to have a cyborg body, maintenance free and no pain either ^w^.

Yes squire is an apprentice. usually attributed to the apprentice of a knight. *nodnod*

what do you mean "maintenance free"? every piece of machinery needs maintenance since synthetic parts don't heal or regenerate and moving parts always wear out. o.O
and why is it always about weapons with you <<; obessed with killing much? and then you go "no pain either" you're contradicting yourself. you want power and control but are afraid to be hurt yourself. kinda messed up if you ask me.why don't you go into the UK peacekeeping forces for a couple years and you never want to see death and killing anymore.

Cool, perhaps it was a mistake or maybe not but that sounded like the UK needs a peacekeeping force here.....then again yeah the horror, troops come into Britain hard as nails then leave broken and crying for their momma's, I blame the southern part of the country.
And only cyborg Id do is a dreadnought, I come to serve the Emperor....again!

errr, yeah. i meant the UN peacekeeping force <<;; my bad. UK need chav herders.

"In 1508, Pope Julius II was looking for an artist to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. The story goes that when the Pope asked Michelangelo for proof of his talent, the artist replied by drawing a perfect circle, free-hand."

I really do not care whether or not you use cybernetic technology to enhance your performance, medical or not. As long as you are not harming other people with this technology, then I think things are groovy. Actually, it might be kind of nifty to see.
Brains Vs Supercomputers - I think either point can be argued, but S. Computers are handicapped and uninspired (the poor dears). In many ways both are 'superior' to one another; example, on one hand a computer does not receive inspiration to create an artistic masterpiece, and on the other, humans cannot process at the rate at which S. Computers can operate.

Spy makes an excellent point =)

yeah, i agree with spy. but we do have people who have very strong areas of expertese in one brain function, but they usually pay a price to some other area. =(

Hmm, all of you make a valid point, however you are forgetting that if a computer is joined together with the mind of a living being the computer in essence becomes an auxilary booster for the brain.
A robot can create a great work of art better then any human ever could, HOWEVER it would be mechanicle, thorough, perfect... Boring. A true artist improves himself constantly or whenever he can.
A machine can too but a machine cannot produce anything more then a mechanicle work of art and yes it may be awe inspiring to look at I admit it would lack emotion behind it. In Supreme Commander the Cybrans are humans who have become intellectually superior by way of a multi-tiered artificial intelligence being joined together with their brains via extensive cerebral augmentations.
This unfortunetly makes them succeptable to being 'programmed' however it should be noted most cyborgs contain a fail-safe that causes the organic part to override the computer part in case of such emergencies. And Spy, on that subject I have no intention of harming anyone, it just seems everyone thinks that I am going to, I cant help speak about this technology, there's no rp's related to similar matters going on, cept for two but I haven't seen any larger scale cybernetics then mine in them, although perhaps that will change so I wont say much on the matter.
And Orgun, I kinda suspected you would bring the 'Dreadnaught' into this topic :p.
A 'dreadnaught' is not a cyborg, it is a mechanized armored exoskeleton operated by an organic thought element, a rotting human corpse whose brain has been hardwired into it's control and steering mechanisms, in essence a walking tank, a mech.
A cyborg is a living being with synthetic components in it's body, oh and cool, not all machines require maintenance.
Take nanotechnology for example, a machine whose metal is enhanced by that could self-repair, and cyborgs like the ones I talk of have no 'moving parts' but instead a bio-synthetic muscular skeletal system designed to function similarly to hydraulics.
Advanced technology is most often largely maintence free but I don't state I am right, I merely state what I personally think in this matter, if this topic is still being discussed I'd like you add to it or take from it what I've written up above :D After all were here to discuss things, and yes I know what Squire is, so please stop mentioning it
