It took them a further day or so to reach the shore. It was slower returning than going because they made frequent stops to cover their tracks and hide whenever the psychics in their group sensed anything untoward. The fight with the flying monsters had made them all more cautious.

Mewtwo teleported them back a couple at a time to conserve his energy. Lucinda looked a little nervous as she recalled his mocking talk of leaving parts behind during teleportation, she didn't fancy losing an eyeball or a leg!

Once they were all back on New Island (without loss of limb) Jessie, James and Meowth stared at the castle openly. Sure they'd been here before but it was four years ago and at night time. Now during the day and after four years of only seeing tumbledown outposts, they were in awe all over again.

"For goodness sake are they breeding?" the sarcastic question came from Scyther who'd been outside when they'd teleported back.

~I understand your trepidation at the presence of more humans. They shouldn't be here for long I hope.~

The trio shuffled uneasily under the gaze of Mewtwo and Scyther. Cloned Pokémon somehow seemed more hostile than their original counterparts.

Ninetales had ambled out after Golduck, whom she'd been talking with, had told her he sensed their master was home. She sat at Liana's side and glared hard at the trio, her many tails lashing in a wary gesture.

"You do realise these three belong to Team Rocket? I recall they had the Rocket uniforms the last time they sullied this island with their presence."

Liana petted the canines head affectionately. Trust a Ninetales to remember such a fine detail, they had uncannily long memories.

Mewtwo's eyes narrowed. He'd known he'd seen the trio somewhere before. He was sure they'd been at the battle of New Island, but he hadn't realised they were Team Rocket members! Usually such an important detail wouldn't have passed him by, but back at the time of the battle anything about humans had been below his notice. He had hated them so he hadn't bothered to remember much about them. They were unworthy of his acknowledgment. Obviously that had been a mistake.

"They were Team Rocket members." Liana stated evenly. "Team Rocket disbanded a year and a half ago. These three haven't been members for quite a while I'd say."

~Did you know?~ Mewtwo's tone was accusing.

"Not at first. But the other day Meowth got talking about their past and how they were always trying to 'please da boss' and 'trying ta nab dat twoips Pikachu'. It was quite easy to surmise they'd been criminals after that little speech." Liana imitated Meowth's accent.

Mewtwo lifted a brow at her comment.

"I think we can afford to give them a chance don't you? However if you really want to kill them I guess I can't stop you."

James squealed and he and Jessie clung to one another in an amusing fear-hug. Meowth bit his claws in agitation. Had they come all this way only to be blown to smithereens by a peeved Pokémon with issues with Team Rocket?

Mewtwo snorted and turned his gaze on the trio. He knew and Liana knew that he wouldn't kill them. It irritated him no end that Liana presumed to know how his mind worked but the trio's humorous display of fear was making up for it.

~Perhaps I can let them live.~ he drew the words out cruelly, a smirk forming on his lips. ~However they had better be good humans and not get in my way.~

"Yes sir, of course we won't get in your way sir!" James managed to eek out.

~Good. Then just make sure you stay out of my sight and don't irritate my companions here on New Island.~

The three bowed low before tearing off into the castle, possibly to find a damn good hiding space.

Mewtwo waited until they were out of earshot before he laughed. Liana was surprised at the sound. Mewtwo was not a laugher! It wasn't a spooky axe-murderer-who's-found-a-helpless-victim laugh either, thankfully. It was a rich, deep sound that echoed with his telepathy.

"That was really mean, Mewtwo. You scared them half to death!" Mew chastised him like a mother cat would to a naughty kitten.

The laughter stopped as soon as it had started once Mew had spoken. He rolled his eyes heavenwards at the annoying presence of his original.

~You can stay out of my presence as well.~ he muttered before going to check up on the other clones.

"He's not very respectful towards Mew is he?" Lucinda hissed in Liana's ear.

Liana shook her head in agreement.

They followed Mewtwo back into the castle. It was entirely strange but Liana felt an odd sense of homecoming at the familiar sights and smells of the castle. She smiled foolishly up at the ceiling and twirled once to take everything in.

Liana felt something hit her back; it was followed by a second and a third. It nearly knocked her off her feet. She turned to see a few of Nidoqueen's children latched onto her legs. She crouched to be at their level and returned the hug.

She was surprised that they were so bold towards her. She had expected them to be shy and maybe not remember her as they'd been gone quite a few days. However it seemed that they were happy to see her and the others. They were doing well; they looked very healthy and were moving with more grace now. A few of them were speaking. Pokémon, she recalled, usually matured faster than humans.

Liana played with the little ones for a few minutes, happy to be in their company. She talked with their parents also, enquiring as to their health and progress whilst they were away.

After extricating herself from their company Liana went to go and change out of her travel clothes. She was stopped however by a paw on her shoulder. Mewtwo obviously wanted to talk.

~You said you weren't very good at hand to hand combat?~

"What I said was that I preferred long range." The girl bristled slightly at his terse manner.

~Follow me.~ Mewtwo didn't bother to answer her, merely strode off leaving Liana to follow.

She trailed after him, his taller frame giving him a longer stride so that she had to trot slightly to keep up.

"Where are we going?"

Mewtwo ignored the question and stopped in front of the store cupboard Liana had been shown on her first night. He opened it and began rummaging through muttering to himself. When he emerged he was holding some clothes. They resembled loose pants and a top that were worn by men during traditional fight training.

Mewtwo looked at the clothes in his arms and then at Liana before slicing a few inches off the pant legs and tearing off some of the length from the cumbersome long sleeves with his claws. Liana cocked her head thinking he'd gone slightly mad. He shoved the bundle at Liana.

~Change into these.~ he gave her a slight push towards a disused room to her left.

"Huh? Wha?"

~For once will you just do as your asked?~

"What about shoes?"

~You won't need them.~ he stated simply, nudging her again.

Liana sighed and entered the room shutting the door behind her. Mewtwo heard her mutter something about 'damn drill sergeants' from beyond the door.

She emerged a few minutes later looking something like a dishevelled miko having a bad clothes day. Not that she really cared how she looked.

Mewtwo nodded and began walking again. Liana trotted after him feeling like an overly obedient puppy.

This time he turned into a hallway that Liana had never ventured into before. Whereas most of the castle was in an almost medieval gothic style; this part was more traditionally Japanese.

There were tatami mats on the floor and shoji screen doors. Everything appeared to be made of wood. It was peaceful and pleasant the slightest whiff of incense hung in the air.

"Where the deuces are we? I've never been in this part of the castle before?"

Mewtwo again ignored her question and pushed open one of the shoji doors. It led into a room that looked an awful lot like a large dojo. Liana felt calmed in this room. It was spacious and light. Dust motes were caught in the shafts of sun entering through the windows on one more modern side of the room. There were bladed weapons hanging off the wall and the general atmosphere gave the whole place an aged and honourable quality she enjoyed.

Mewtwo walked over to the centre of the room and stood there before striking a defensive pose and said in a monotone. ~Attack me.~

"Wha!? What the hell!?" Liana's articulacy was failing her admirably today.

~Attack me.~ he repeated.

"I heard you but why?" Liana wondered briefly if he was looking for an excuse to decimate her. Self defence still held up in court she thought giddily.

~You said your hand to hand combat skills are lacking. Or implied it at least (he cut her off as she opened her mouth to protest). I have been trained in various forms of battle. I can teach you. However if you don't wish to be taught…~ he trailed off with an uncharacteristic shrug.

Liana blinked slowly before smiling. Combat lessons from the worlds toughest Pokémon couldn't be a bad thing.

She entered the room properly and took her place opposite Mewtwo. She tried to imitate his stance.

Faster than she could blink Mewtwo was in front of her. A quick swipe of his leg and the young woman fell to her back with an 'oof' of expelled air from her lungs. Mewtwo crouched over her a fist aimed at her solar plexus in an offensive gesture this time. His eyes were amused.

~I can see I will have my work cut out for me. Your stance is terrible. A simple kick and your feet were out from beneath you! You need to set your legs wider apart, to balance the weight more.~

He removed his fist and offered her his paw to help her to her feet. She stood up once more and waited patiently whilst Mewtwo corrected her posture.

~A solid kick will probably still knock you over. You're physically smaller and have no tail to balance. However this position should help.~

Liana nodded and when he asked tried to copy the stance on her own.

~Better.~ he stated.

Liana rolled her shoulders to relax herself.

~Now. Attack me.~

Liana didn't have to faintest idea of what to do. If she'd had her bow or was allowed to use her powers it would be simpler. However she knew that Mewtwo was teaching her something important so she offered no complaint.

Feeling rather at a loss Liana simply lunged at Mewtwo as she recalled doing the day he'd bought her to New Island. Mewtwo stepped slightly to the side, smooth as butter. He turned, letting his back slide into the curve of hers drawing her over his right hip holding her by the cloth of her clothes. Liana felt a sickening flying motion and when she opened her eyes properly she was again looking up at him from the flat of her back. He'd got her in one move, how degrading!

~Maybe I should teach you how to fall first. It would be best that you don't end up winded every time I throw you.~

Liana coughed and sat up awkwardly before gasping out. "Who said I'd let you throw me again? I'm just getting warmed up."

Mewtwo laughed at her attitude and again helped her to her feet. ~Of course, of course. You'll be throwing me by the end of the session hm?~

"You are such a pompous ass." She chuckled before lunging at him again, hoping to take him by surprise.

Mewtwo blinked as she actually made contact with him this time. However the outcome was the same. Liana was grabbed, flipped, and ended up on the floor. This time with Mewtwo's heel placed firmly on her stomach to stop her wriggling.

"That's just low! How am I supposed to get up now?"

She felt the pressure increase a miniscule amount.

~You don't. You're not strong enough.~

"Are you teaching me or did you just bring me here to insult me?"

Liana knew it was a slightly against the rules but she wanted up. She put a finger to his foot and sent a spark of psychic energy into the appendage. Mewtwo grunted in surprise and removed his foot from her stomach.

~Are you any good with bladed weapons?~

Liana shrugged from her position on the floor. She wasn't getting up only to be thrown again just yet. "I have a dagger, I doubt it'd do much damage though, and Lucinda let me work with her glaive a few times."

~I will teach you some basic swordplay as well then.~

"Great am I gonna end up sliced to ribbons at the end of those training sessions?"

~Perhaps. If you don't listen to instructions.~

Liana rolled her eyes and got to her feet. She took up her defensive stance once more. Mewtwo nodded and began to explain the correct way to fall to receive the least impact and harm.
