The group were soon saying goodbye to Alan and Ellie as they saddled the Rapidash ready to return back to New Island. Alan and Ellie insisted that they visit the outpost again soon, and promised to keep them informed of any goings on.
They had only just reached the edge of the forest that bordered the meadow that the outpost was situated in, when a shout stopped them in their tracks.
"Hey wait up!"
Mewtwo was surprised to see Meowth hurrying up on two legs, waving his arms like a windmill to gain their attention. Following closely behind were a puffing Jessie and James.
"What is it Meowth?" Rhys called back to the Pokémon.
"W-we're comin' with ya!"
"What?" Liana blinked in shock and turned to gauge a certain clone's reaction. She had a feeling he wouldn't like this.
Meowth stopped short of Artemis and braced himself on his knees panting from the run. "I gotta woik out more!"
~What do you mean you're coming with us?~ Mewtwo's eyes were narrowed in suspicion and his voice was dangerously low.
Hanging around with these dunderheads at an outpost was one thing, having them along for a journey and, heaven forbid; at his castle was another thing entirely!
James gulped slightly and looked up at the intimidating Pokémon. Mewtwo had dropped the illusion once they were out of sight of the outpost.
"We want to help!" Meowth was forthright in his reply.
"What? Why?" Liana looked at each of them.
"Well to be honest whatcha told me got us thinkin'. If these monsters start attacking on a large scale then its bad news right? You could use all the help you can get. We don't seem like much but we three have been through the mill. We can handle ourselves and know quite a bit about survival and stuff." Meowth's argument wasn't a very convincing one.
"Whoa hang on a minute. I never said anything about confronting these monsters! We're going back to Mewtwo's stronghold, we're going to study them and hope nothing bad happens. We're not going to go looking for a fight but if it happens it happens. This is our problem you three needn't be involved!"
"Wrong! This involves everybody! As a Pokémon I've been hearing stories for a while now about monsters. I thought they had something to do with Mewtwo but they don't these guys are worse! These monsters have been eating people, Pokémon and animals alike. They've been destroying places and causing havoc! News travels much faster among Pokémon y'know!"
Jessie and James had remained quiet for a few minutes before they straightened and struck a dramatic pose.
"We're willing to help no matter the cost! We've done nothing but go from outpost to outpost these past few years and we want some action!" their words were overdramatic and made Lucinda hide a smile.
Liana was impressed by their enthusiasm but had her reservations. She turned to Mewtwo to see his face was that of someone who had resigned himself to the fate of forever being hounded by morons. It was pitiable really.
"It's up to you. If they're planning on coming with us then it's your home they'll be invading."
Mewtwo was trying to blame someone, anyone for this newest upheaval in his previously quiet life! It was Rhys's fault he decided. If the idiot hadn't started that disgusting belching contest with James then they would have never met the trio. Then again they may have met them some other way…
Clearly then it was Lucinda's fault! If she hadn't suggested hiding out at her father's outpost they would have carried on and be back at New Island by now if it wasn't for her. Though to be honest, with the monsters tailing them, would they have made it if not for the outpost…?
Well that only left one other. This was entirely Lianas' fault. If she had never left her pathetic little village, and never gone in her uncle's pathetic little boat he'd never had met her. If she hadn't intrigued him when he'd met her he would have annihilated her on the spot, gone home and never thought anything about it again. If she hadn't pointed out that the bird that had attacked him was a Phoenix he'd have never thought on it and not left New Island which in turn led him to visiting the outpost, led Rhys into the belching contest and made them meet Jessie, James and Meowth!
Yes it was all her fault! Every single little thing was the girls fault!
Mewtwo felt satisfied at this conclusion. Liana was a troublemaker pure and simple and by rights he should kill her, or at the very least hate her for it. However something niggled at his conscience. If it wasn't for her his castle would still be a colossal mess (he was a clean creature but he wasn't fond of cleaning). If it wasn't for her then the injuries he'd sustained from the Phoenix would have likely ended his life, he was no fool he could tell when he'd been bested in battle (though it didn't mean he had to admit it to anyone). To be honest if it wasn't for her then he would have carried on hunting humans regardless of who they were, and possibly would have killed Liana and her friends by now; which, he begrudgingly thought, may not have been an entirely good thing. Was he actually becoming fond of the humans he had allowed into his life?
Crap! Self honesty was such a bitch!
~They may stay. I'm not allowing my home to become some sort of hotel though.~ Mewtwo finally bit out harshly before turning and continuing on his way.
He didn't see the smile that Mew had on her placid face. Nor the surprised looks shared by the newest members of their party.
