"Ugh perfect." Rhys grumbled as he looked out the mouth of the cave.
The skies had quite literally opened on them a while after leaving the wolves. They had run into a small cave and were currently waiting out the passing storm. Thunder growled in the distance as Liana came running in laughing. She was soaked.
Lucinda wordlessly handed the taller woman a towel and Liana began rubbing her hair dry as she grinned out of the cave to watch the rain lashing down outside.
"What are you so cheerful about? We're soaked to the bone." Rhys muttered. He hated rainy weather, it made him feel gloomy.
"I'm cheerful O' miserable one, because if any of those monsters are after us they're going to have a hard time in this." She waved a hand at the weather. "Better still after this rain has passed I'd be willing to bet any tracks or scent trails we left will be good for nothing."
~She has a point.~ Mewtwo said mildly. The sound of the rain on the cave roof was lulling him into a peaceful state of lethargy.
"Plus there's the fact that I just like thunderstorms." Liana smiled as a fork of lightning split the sky.
Lucinda whimpered slightly at the subsequent thunder. Liana might enjoy such weather but Lucinda loathed it. She'd been frightened of storms since she was little. Mewtwo's hell of a storm four years ago had only increased the fear. She distracted herself by reading a map; it was quite old but still served its purpose.
Meowth was muttering under his breath as he wrung out the longer fur on his tail. Pikachu shook himself with a 'brrr' sound. Mewtwo seemed content to let the water drip from his fur and stay where he was sat with his back against the cave wall; one leg bent with an arm resting on it in a casual fashion. The Rapidash were as enthusiastic about the weather as Rhys and Lucinda. They were huddled right at the back of the cave trying not to get dripped on.
Rhys went to join Lucinda in reading the map with a muttered. "Where the hell are we anyway?"
Their individual reflection was suddenly halted at a new and familiar voice that joined the party. This time she was speaking in telepathy to all so that Liana didn't have to translate.
~Good grief, what miserable weather this is!~
Mew wandered in on all fours, shaking a great deal of water from her fur. The water hit Pikachu who grumbled and began grooming himself once more to dry out.
Mewtwo opened one eye and growled quietly at her arrival but did nothing else. He was feeling too content to start a fight. Lucinda, Liana and Rhys leapt respectfully to their feet and made to bow, Mew waved them off.
~Enough of that, you'll do your backs damage if you do that every time we meet.~ She teased and then smiled at their bewilderment before continuing. ~You get bored of people bowing in your presence all the time.~
Mewtwo looked their way from his relaxed position and mumbled something suspiciously like 'I wouldn't'. Only Rhys heard him and shot the clone a grin, which surprisingly Mewtwo returned fully. If rainy weather made Rhys miserable it seemed to have the opposite effect on Mewtwo.
Mew quickly settled into Liana's lap once they were all seated, she began to groom herself, purring softly.
~I have discussed the matter with my siblings. Unfortunately not all of them were willing to believe that the Gods Realm had been breached. However I talked most of them round and they are willing to watch over the dimensional rift for any disturbance.~
Mew seemed content to lick at her paw and rub it against her head for a while. None of the humans interrupted her, if a Goddess was taking her time one did not rush her!
Mewtwo however had no such respect for Mew's possible ire at being disrupted.
~You decided to visit the mortal realm in the pouring rain merely to tell us that?~
Mew gave her clone a sardonic look as she paused in her grooming regime; her tongue was still sticking out comically, numb from the use, so the serious look was lost.
~When I mentioned to Ho-Oh who was involved with this problem,~ she carried on purposefully slow, just to annoy Mewtwo, ~he decided that one of us should keep an eye on things in the mortal realm.~
"Who was involved?" Lucinda repeated.
~To be blunt: my clone. We have been keeping an eye on Mewtwo for some time. His actions have been a grave disappointment to us. Ho-Oh and indeed Celebi and Manaphy insisted that I come here to keep an eye on you. However as you already know I can do little to help you directly should trouble arise.~
Liana was running her fingers gently over Mew's fur. Goddess or not she was damn adorable and she just couldn't pass up the opportunity. She was pleased the hear Mew purr and mewl at the petting.
"Why have Mewtwo's actions got anything to do with the Gods?" Rhys asked.
Mewtwo was frowning again. He wasn't fond of being talked about as if he wasn't there.
~As my clone he is essentially a part of me. No matter how big or small that part is. Any action he takes reflects upon me and the other Gods in turn as a whole. Destroying the human race is not really the best recommendation we've ever had.~
Mewtwo snorted and turned his head away from the group as they tried to hide smiles at Mew's comment.
~I should warn you. Thanatos has more creatures at his disposal than you first thought. He is hunting you adamantly.~ Mew's tone turned serious again.
"But why bother hunting us? What have we got?"
~Liana.~ She murmured simply. ~Not to mention he was very interested to hear that Mewtwo seemed to be part of your group. He is hunting the both of you.~
"But why, what use are Mewtwo and I to him?" Liana sounded worried and angry.
~This I do not know. If I did I would certainly tell you. I may not be able to help physically but Ho-Oh said nothing about information.~
Liana smiled a little at Mew. She was willing to bet money that Mew had only mentioned Mewtwo so that she could come here too. It struck Liana that Mew was probably the rebel out of the Gods, always wanting to help despite a stupid decree.
Silence reigned for a few minutes before Lucinda let out a triumphant little cry. "This is where we are!" She was observing the map again.
They gathered round to look at the map. Lucinda pointed out their location. "If we're being hunted then we need somewhere safe to hole up before we make the final dash for the coast. My dad's outpost is right near here. We can stay there for a night or two."
"Nice idea Luce, but what about them?" Rhys jerked his thumb over his shoulder at Mew and Mewtwo. "They're gonna stick out like a sore thumb. Somehow I don't think the outpost will be too thrilled with the 'human hunter' wanting a room."
"Uh, yeah, didn't think about that." Lucinda bit her lip embarrassed.
~I'll be fine.~ Mew smiled.
She closed her eyes for a second and in a flash of light the Goddess had turned into an innocuous Aipom, chattering happily as she played with Rhys's horse-tail.
"Doesn't solve our six-foot-something problem though does it." Rhys grinned cheekily.
~Ho-Oh also failed to mention that I couldn't help my clone either.~ The Aipom's smile grew as mischievous as Rhys's as she scampered off the man's shoulder and approached Mewtwo.
Mewtwo eyed his smaller counterpart suspiciously. ~What are you plotting?~
~I have a technique that Latias taught me. I don't need it personally but I can use it on you.~
Mew held out her Aipom paws and they glowed. They glow enveloped Mewtwo and then disappeared.
~What have you done?~ He muttered his suspicion growing.
~I will now create an illusion around you.~ She stated simply. ~It will keep your identity secret while we are at the outpost. However if someone touches you for a prolonged period of time then the illusion will wear off and they'll see who you truly are. Latias forgets that too often.~
Mew looked Mewtwo up and down, scampering around him to inspect him carefully. When she was done she sat back on her haunches and her eyes began to glow. Mewtwo felt a tingling over his skin before the glow faded.
~So what illusion have you given me?~ Mewtwo lifted his paws to see human hands where his paws should be. ~Is this some kind of sick joke!?~
~I haven't changed anything about you. It's like a cloak over your form. You look different but beneath you're the same. As such watch what you do with that tail of yours.~
Meowth tilted his head at Mewtwo. To a Pokémon the illusion just looked like a shimmer, a veil. They could see through it. However to a human it appeared that Mewtwo was completely human.
Mewtwo appeared to be a human in his early twenties, and was actually handsome: He stood at the same height as in his normal form, six foot seven inches. He was quite pale in complexion, well built and strong. His hair was a pale colour that ranged between silver hues of lilac; it was long hanging over his shoulders with a fringe that fell into his still-amethyst eyes. His facial features were quite angular; strong jaw, cat-like eyes, a serious mouth and quite a long nose. The human Mewtwo illusion was wearing dark breeches, leather boots and a white shirt.
"Hey, not a bad illusion Mew." Rhys looked impressed, peering at Mewtwo over the map he still held.
Lucinda turned to Liana and mouthed 'he's cute!' Liana rolled her eyes and elbowed the girl in response. Though she had to give credit where due, Mew made one hell of an illusion!
Liana turned to peer out of the cave. The rain was finally letting up.
"It looks like we're good to go, providing the Rapidash agree."
The aforementioned Rapidash stepped cautiously forward, poking their noses out of the cave to sniff at the damp air.
"This weather will suffice. We should move quickly before it starts again." Mewtwo's Rapidash made the prognosis.
Lucinda quickly took the map back off Rhys, rolling it up and shoving it into her pack. Rhys picked up the wrapping of a chocolate bar he'd eaten. In a few seconds the group, plus one new member, started out towards the outpost.
The skies had quite literally opened on them a while after leaving the wolves. They had run into a small cave and were currently waiting out the passing storm. Thunder growled in the distance as Liana came running in laughing. She was soaked.
