Chapter 11:
"You know that I can shape shift, yes? Well there's a name for shape shifters like myself, Druids. It's quite a rare gift to have; rarer still is the gift of being a Seer."

~What is a Seer?~

"A Seer is like a Psychic. They have similar powers to a regular psychic but more advanced. They can also look into the higher planes that surround our world."

Mewtwo appeared a little baffled, so Liana patiently explained further.

"Hardly anyone but Druids and Seers know this but our world isn't the only world, or plane if you will. In another realm live the Elementals. Beings made up entirely of the various elements that inhabit our world. They control them and help maintain the balance of our world. In return they feed off our world's life force, but not in a way that is dangerous to us." Mewtwo nodded, Liana continued. "Above the Elemental plane however is the Gods plane."

~Gods?~

"You probably know them as other Pokémon: Mew, Celebi, Ho-oh, Lugia, the elemental birds and others. They can move between their world and ours when they see fit. However they rarely interfere with goings on in our world due to an ancient pact they made between themselves, that's not important though."

Liana noticed that Mewtwo flinched at Mew's name. However she didn't question it. She knew from rumours that he was said to have been cloned from Mew. If the rumours were correct then her mentioning Mew would only prove to anger him further.

"What's important is that Seers can mentally and, very rarely, physically enter the Gods realm. Druids can too to an extent, we're taught to enter these planes to study the other creatures and communicate with the Gods. You see other creatures live in the Gods plane. Phoenixes, Dragons and all manner of other beasts most humans believe are only myth."

~These creatures are Gods too?~

"No. a long time ago these creatures resided in our world and lived alongside humans, Pokémon and animals. However although some were benign beings, others were incredibly hostile. The human race and Pokémon alike were nearly wiped out in the struggle against these beasts. Finally a select few of Pokémon, Seers, Psychics and Druids fought against them in a massive battle. The Seers could tell that they were losing the battle. So they made a deal with the legendary Pokémon, the Gods. If the Gods would banish these creatures to another realm and spare our world, then humans and Pokémon alike would worship the legendary Pokémon forever more."

Mewtwo looked a little put-out by the history lesson and folded his arms in an unspoken gesture for her to get to the point.

"That Phoenix, by rights, should still be in the Gods realm. I told you that Seers can enter the other planes right? Well although it is possible to take a creature from one of those realms and bring it to our own. It is considered a high-class felony! Even worse is to try and change the creature's nature for selfish purposes. That's what someone has done. They've flouted an ancient pact with the Gods and taken one of the beings from their realm. They've taken that Phoenix and made him pure evil, probably told him to attack you as well. Whoever has done this doesn't care about the consequences. I dread to think what other creatures they might have bought through to control alongside that Phoenix." Liana finished her explanation with a suppressed shudder.

Mewtwo looked over at Liana after sitting down in the armchair opposite hers. It sounded far-fetched to him, but he could tell when someone was lying. Liana's aura was normal, she was telling the truth.

~So this Phoenix may just be one of several creatures to have been bought through from the Gods realm?~

"Yes. I'd be willing to bet money on that whoever's done this has bought many others through with the promise of glory and sustenance. A lot of the hostile creatures are carnivorous and wouldn't get much food in the Gods realm; here they'd be free to eat whomever they pleased!"

Mewtwo sighed and rubbed his own temples in a mirror image of Liana's earlier gesture. This could prove to be a problem. Mewtwo had no intention of sharing this world with hostile creatures that could threaten him or his Pokémon clones. The humans he could care less about. However his pride told him that any human to die would do so by his hand. Not by some overgrown bird being controlled by another human with pathetic dreams of world domination! These were his lands now and he would protect them as he saw fit.

~How many species live in the Gods realm?~

"Many. You have such an expansive selection of books here Mewtwo. Surely one of them would be useful if you wanted to learn more about the beings living in the other realms."

Mewtwo nodded at her assumption. Indeed Mewtwo was an avid reader always thirsting for knowledge. He had ransacked various libraries and book collections during his raids and had built up an amazing selection of papers, scrolls, tomes and the like. Half of them he didn't even know what they were for or about, he'd just taken them and squirreled them away like a Rattata would berries in winter.

Rising from his seat, Mewtwo walked over to one of the shelves and placed a paw almost devoutly on the smooth wooden surface. As much as it galled him to ask, and as much as her filthy human scent would forever permeate his beloved books afterwards. Mewtwo needed Liana's help in this task.

~Liana,~ she tuned as he spoke her name, ~I want you to help me find a book on the Gods realm. If we are to return these creatures back to their holding we need to know what we're up against.~

Liana grinned. He didn't even realise he'd just implied that he was going to help humans, did he? Unfortunately he picked up on her thoughts right away and smirked softly.

~Don't delude yourself human, I'm not doing this for your race. This is my world and as such only I may stake claim over who dies and who lives. These pathetic creatures have no right to be here. Those beings will be sent back by my hand, and,~ he added with a rather nasty smile ~the human controlling them shall die by my hand also.~

It took the pair almost all day to search the library for anything of significance. Liana was up and down ladders to reach the higher shelves, lugging heavy books and dusty old scrolls back and forth to Mewtwo. He was sat at a large desk pouring over the selection she bought him. With his glasses perched on the end of his nose he looked every bit the stressed professor. The short fur on the top of his head was rumpled from where he rubbed it with his paw in thought. Liana would bring a book down only to have him shake his head at one that was already on the desk and hand it back to the tired girl wordlessly.

As odd as it seemed Liana was quite enjoying the work. Despite his earlier arrogant comments Mewtwo's temper had sweetened a little. Even though he was stressed he'd occasionally call her over to discuss a likely looking passage with child-like enthusiasm. Liana decided it certainly beat cleaning and didn't complain when he sent her back and forth for various tomes.

Finally after dark had fallen and Mewtwo had lit the library with dozens of candles (some floating rather eerily with the aid of his telekinesis), a rather excited shout came from the desk whilst Liana was halfway up a tall ladder. She wobbled and almost fell before righting herself and calling back to him.
"What is it?"

~I think this could be it. Come here.~

Liana scrambled down the ladder and trotted over to the desk to lean over Mewtwo's shoulder in order to read. Her eyes widened as she took in the detailed descriptions and drawings in old age calligraphy about the ancient creatures that inhabited other realms.

"This is definitely what we've been searching for," she ran her index finger down the page to point out various beings; "these ones look nasty!"

Mewtwo wholeheartedly agreed. Some of the creatures looked friendly, even cute. However the vast majority appeared fearsome and were often depicted (in that rather olden days macabre way) devouring screaming humans and trampling Pokémon.

They spent a short time reading through the various beings that could have been bought through the dimensional rift made by the Seer. Occasionally pausing to discuss how someone could control such creatures, and more importantly, how they could be stopped if they were in their world.

By the time the candles were beginning to flicker and die the pair had exhausted themselves pouring over the book and talking. Liana didn't know about Mewtwo but her legs felt like jelly and she was about ready to fall asleep where she sat (they had taken the book back to the armchairs when leaning over the desk had become too bothersome).

Mewtwo cleared his throat and talked physically instead of mentally, he'd probably given himself a headache Liana thought, "I need you to do something for me Liana."

Liana stifled a yawn and looked up, waiting for him to continue. He looked somewhat bothered.

"Meowth told me you knew a Seer in your village, an old woman correct?"

Liana decided that 'old' wasn't really a word you could use for Maria. She also decided that Meowth needed to learn to keep his mouth shut! "Yeah that's right."

"She would know about this more than us…" he paused for a moment before apparently coming to a decision, "I want you to return to your village and talk to this woman."

If Liana had been sleepy before she certainly wasn't now! She sat up straight so fast it made her head spin. "W-what!?"

"You heard me." There was that near indiscernible humour to his voice again.

He, he wants me to return home!? I can leave!?

Mewtwo smirked at her thoughts but said nothing, waiting for her reply.

"Of course I'll go. Maria would know more about this than we ever could. It would be a great help. I know you hate humans but she really could aid us in this cause, I mean this is so much bigger than anything to hit our world for such a long time. Oh and of course I'd return to tell you what I found out, I wouldn't just leave. I swear by Celebi! It would be so nice to see my friends again too and-"

Mewtwo stopped her babbling by holding up a paw.

"Girl that is enough, I understand. Go and rest, you shall leave in the morning."

Liana sprung to her feet her cheeks flushed with happiness "Okay," she paused and looked at the mountain of books, "eh don't you want me to put these back?"

"No, go, it will be quicker if I do it."

Liana needed no further encouragement; she scurried from the library almost running headlong into an eavesdropping pair outside, Meowth and Pikachu.

"What are you two doing here?" she put her hands on her hips and gave them a stern look.

"You're leaving!?" Meowth practically wailed.

Liana frowned; they must have been there some time. "Only to ask a friend for help, I'll come back."

In truth Liana felt a little torn. If she came back she'd probably end up doing menial chores for the rest of her days which, in Mewtwo's company, were probably severely limited. However if she didn't she'd never see her new friends again, or be able to help in this new turn of events.

"Do you swear by Ho-oh?" It was Pikachu, his little face stubbornly stern.

Liana gulped softly before answering, "I swear."
