Chapter 7:
"He's gone? What do you mean he's gone!?" Liana's eyes were wide with something akin to excitement and relief.

Pikachu nodded sagely before replying, "He leaves New Island quite a lot, sometimes for days on end."

A few weeks, how many exactly Liana couldn't be sure, had past since she arrived on (cough was kidnapped and taken to cough) New Island. She had slowly accepted her fate as cleaning lady extraordinaire and general dogsbody, and had fallen into a routine of: Wake up, clean the place, eat, clean some more, tend to the clones' medical needs, eat, clean yet again, sleep, and be hounded by the Lord of all Assholes TM at anytime in between.

Pikachu's words slowly sunk into her brain before the woman gave a whoop of delight and danced a jig with said Pikachu, "Alright a holiday! He's not here to boss me around and give me death threats!"

Poor Pikachu looked at the elated woman's face and just couldn't bear to ruin her good mood, but he had to, "Um, well yeah heheh, but he asked me to give you this…"

He trailed off and handed Liana a sheet of paper before lowering his ears for the tirade he knew was sure to follow her reading it.

Written on the innocuous and seemingly innocent parchment, in a very decorative cursive, was an entire list of chores that Mewtwo had seen fit to leave the human with whilst he was gone.

Liana's face fell rapidly before she began to rage. Pikachu only caught a few words of it as she throttled the poor parchment, "Of all the cruel twisted… the bastard… he wants me to clean the roof!? I'll fall and break my neck!!!... Probably what he wants sadistic fucker… gonna murder him… Damn it all to the seventh circle of Hell!!!"

She glared at the now crumpled paper, breathing hard. Just when she thought she'd get a break he pulls something like this. Liana was damn sure had Mewtwo had an immature sense of humour, or any sense of humour at all! He would have signed the paper with an emoticon something like this: >;P

Wigglytuff had heard the entire rant and put a comforting paw on Liana's arm before offering her a glass of water. Calmer now, Liana flopped onto the nearest seat and looked over the list once more before draining her drink in one go.

"Thanks." She murmured as the cool water soothed her now sore throat.

Wigglytuff and Pikachu exchanged looks wondering if it was safe to talk to the girl yet. Liana shot them a slightly apologetic glance as she noticed their concern, "Sorry about that. I was just hoping for a bit of peace while he was away. Why's he left anyway?"

"We don't really know where he goes. Maybe he goes to think things over, maybe to kill some more humans." It was a passing Blastoise that overheard her question and replied with a nonchalant shrug.

Over the weeks the clones had become slightly more civil towards Liana. Talking to her and not causing her as much trouble while she worked etc. However their general dislike of the human race still ran deep. This prevented any of them from truly becoming friends with Liana like the Meowth, Wigglytuff and Pikachu had.

Liana winced slightly at the thought of more humans being slaughtered. She hoped he'd just gone to think something over and wasn't attacking anyone. She hoped that her village was safe.

Glancing at the paper one more time Liana resigned herself to the fact that she'd have to complete these tasks. Perhaps if she did them all quickly enough she could have some time off before Mewtwo returned, that would be a blessing.

So it was that Liana doggedly worked through the entire list, ticking tasks off as she went. It had taken her three days of hard work to get down to the last task, cleaning the roof.

She mulled over the prospect for some time, finally deciding that the safest option would be to shape shift into a creature that was nimble and good at climbing. Hopefully she could keep the shape long enough to finish her chore.

Grabbing some cleaning equipment Liana made her way up the large spiral staircase that adorned the centre of the entrance hall; it would most likely lead her to the roof. Scyther saw her climbing the staircase and called out "Dead girl walkin'!" before laughing.

"Thanks for the support!" she shouted back sarcastically.

Liana wandered around the upper levels for some time, looking for a way that would lead her to the roof. She wasn't having much luck when she came across a room that she certainly hadn't been in before. From the sheer spaciousness and luxury of the room it had to be Mewtwo's sleeping quarters, she decided.

It was decked in a fresco of delicate colours and sombre hues. There were several shelves lined with books. Everything, she noted with mild amusement, from 'War and Peace' and other classic novels, to 'A Basic Guide to Cookery'. His bed was a massive four poster that looked very comfortable. Liana pulled a face at the plush bed, she had to sleep wherever she could (usually the floor) while he slept in this? Looking away she blandly noted a few other items like chairs, and on one side of the room a large viewing screen of some sort.

Sat on a perch in one corner was a Fearow. It woke up from its slumber and eyed her warily, as if daring her to try and steal something, before deciding that she was no threat and tucking its head back under its wing.

Liana walked across the room and flung open the French-doors to let in fresh ocean air. She stepped out onto the sizable balcony and muttered to herself whilst gauging the possibility of climbing onto the roof from here. As luck would have it the roof sloped gently down to surround the French-doors, a small lip made by the tiles would do for a good leg up. Liana set down her cleaning supplies and assessed the roof just as another being walked into Mewtwo's room.

"Y'know you're not supposed to come in here. Mewtwo doesn't like anyone coming in his room." Liana saw Meowth strolling passed the Fearow towards her, he was closely followed by the 'usual suspects' Pikachu and Wigglytuff.

"Well he wants me to clean the roof. This is the best place I could find to get up onto it."

Wigglytuff came to stand beside Liana, peering up cautiously, "It looks dangerous up there. Are you sure you want to do this?"

"I don't want to do it, I was told to do it, big difference. Besides I thought I'd take monkey shape. They're good climbers had have opposable thumbs. I'll be okay."

The clones looked at one another and then at her as if she'd sprouted horns. "She's finally flipped!" Pikachu sputtered.

Liana looked at them and then laughed, realising her mistake. She had never bothered to tell them of her ability to shape shift, no wonder they thought she'd gone crazy! "I'm not mad. I'm a shape shifter. A little psychic as well come to that. I can turn into animals and Pokémon."

The three clones seemed only slightly less baffled. Liana laughed again, "Okay I guess you're gonna need a demonstration here, watch."

Liana closed her eyes and concentrated on a shape in her mind. Slowly the changes began. Fur started to sprout from her flesh, her bones shrank and twisted with some rather graphic popping and crunching noises that made Wigglytuff squeal in disgust. Her organs shifted and her facial features changes, a tail sprouted from her spine. As quickly as it had begun it was over. Liana stood just a couple of feet tall, a fully formed Pikachu. Her clothes pooled around her like a tent.

"Lugia in a lake! You're one of us now!" Pikachu squeaked excitedly and ran around the former human, inspecting her and touching his nose to hers in greeting.

"Can you change into anything, like a Ditto can?" The Meowth questioned interestedly.

"Yeah, but this ability isn't as stable as a Ditto's." Liana answered, speaking in a Pikachu's tongue.

"What do you mean?"

"Well for a start the transformation takes its toll on me physically. If I stay in one shape too long I either pass out, revert back, or end up with some uh, interesting additions to my body that refuse to leave for quite some time. I can look like Frankenstein's monster if I'm not careful! Also I have to keep my mind strong. When I'm in other shapes the creatures natural instincts can try and take over. If I don't keep my own mind calm I could end up killing something in a hunt, or digging myself into a burrow and never emerging again from fear." Liana explained.

Liana concentrated again and reverted back into her normal self before hurriedly dressing, the clones politely turned their backs. She answered a few more questions from the curious trio, one including the problem with her clothes.

Liana's face flamed as she explained that she had to transform in places that were private. Another con to her ability was that as other creatures didn't bother wearing clothes, her clothes didn't change with her and were lost during the transformations.

Finally exhausting their supply of questions, Liana got back to the task at hand. She concentrated again and this time became a small and mischievous looking monkey with a long tail. She grabbed a washcloth and darted up onto the palace roof with grace and ease to start cleaning.
